Mopian Adlaw!
We came back safe and sound. God is good. The 5-day medical outreach (Oct. 16-20) to the Matigsalug tribe in Davao was successful - filled with thrills and fun. The team, composed of TMFI staff, medical personal, native guides, and army soldiers, trekked through rugged terrain, braving rain and a cascading river. Floating on wooden rafts, we visiting remote places. We stopped at three (3) tribal villages, all in the Marilog district - Sinasa, Barobo, and New Tawas.
We had a good time ministering to the mountain people. Four hundred and seventy (470) were treated with various ailments: malaria, bronchial infections, tuberculosis and infected wounds. More than 100 kids were given vaccines. Aside from medicines, we distributed food packs and balloons to the kids - suddenly the mountains were alive with laughter and bursting balloons! The people were grateful that we came, for these are rare moments when they are able to see doctors and obtain medicine. In emergency cases, it takes them 4-8 hours to walk to town and get help.
